One Of The Longest Missing Persons Cases In The Uk Was Solved When A Woman Was Found Alive 52 Years Later

Over 50 years after going missing, a woman was discovered alive.

One of the longest-running mysteries in the UK, the missing person case, has finally been resolved.

Sheila Fox, then 16 years old, disappeared from Coventry’s downtown in 1972. Although she was still living at home with her parents, detectives assumed she was seeing an older guy when she vanished.

Police issued a fresh search for the missing woman just last week (December 29), emphasizing that they had a “open mind” because it was possible that she had just moved away without telling anyone.

Strangely, she hasn’t been seen at all for the next fifty years, but investigators have recently given us an update on Sheila, who is currently 68 years old.

In an official statement, West Midlands Police wrote“We are delighted to announce the conclusion of one of West Midlands Police’s longest-running missing person investigations.”

“We recently published a renewed appeal to help find Sheila Fox, who went missing from Coventry in 1972. Now, Sheila has been found and spoken to, with officers confirming she is alive and well.”

Officers found a single picture of the missing woman from when she vanished and shared it on social media and their website. The public quickly contacted them with information “within hours.”

After confirming that she was safe and residing in a different region of the nation, authorities were able to track her down, ending one of the most protracted missing person investigations they had ever looked into.

A statement on the case was also issued by Detective Sergeant Jenna Shaw of the department’s Cold Case Investigation Team.

She said, “We’re absolutely delighted to have found Sheila after more than five decades.”

“We searched through every piece of evidence we could find and managed to locate a photo of Sheila.”

“We are a small team of officers and I’d like to recognise the work of DC Shaun Reeve, who managed to resolve this case with help from the public,” she said.

stating that every missing person “has a story” and that “their families and friends deserve to know what happened to them,” even if it’s been a long time or for any cause. This can occasionally lead to a reunion.

“Missing people can be from all ages and backgrounds, often with vastly differing reasons for going missing.” According to the statement,.

“With advances in forensics and technology, the team is able to pursue leads which weren’t necessarily available at the time these cases were first reported.”
