Officials confirm that Deputy Fire Chief Austin Cooley was killed Monday morning in a head‑on collision while driving home from work.
Cooley, 26, served both as a deputy chief with South Hunt County Fire Rescue and as a police officer with the Kaufman Police Department.

Authorities say the crash happened near State Highway 34 and County Road 2186, just south of Greenville, Texas.
He was returning home from his police shift when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck head‑on.
First responders arrived quickly. Sadly, Cooley was pronounced dead at the scene.
