Stefon Diggs Faces Felony Charges

New England Patriots star Stefon Diggs now faces felony charges. The 32-year-old, who is dating music star Cardi B, has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery.

Authorities filed the charges on December 29 in Dedham District Court, Massachusetts, The Independent reports.

Patriots Stand By Diggs

The Patriots released a statement confirming Diggs denies the allegations. According to ESPN, the team said:

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon.”

The statement continued:

“We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Alleged Incident and Arraignment

The charges stem from an alleged incident on December 2. Diggs is set for arraignment on January 23, just two days before the AFC Championship Game on January 25.

Diggs’ lawyer, Michael DiStefano, has requested that the police report remain sealed. He also revealed that Diggs has made a financial offer to the alleged victim.

Personal Life Updates

The charges come shortly after Diggs and Cardi B welcomed their first child together. Cardi B, who shares three children with her ex Offset, confirmed the birth on Instagram in November. She wrote:

“My life has always been a combination of different chapters and different seasons. My last chapter was the beginning of a new season. Starting over is never easy, but it’s been so worth it!”

She added that she brought new music, a new album, and a new baby into her life, giving her more reason to be the best version of herself.

A few days later, Cardi B shared photos of the newborn, who was swaddled in a Patriots blanket. The couple has yet to reveal the baby’s name.
