My Father-in-Law Destroyed My Garden for a Pool — Karma Struck Back
A Difficult Adjustment
When my father-in-law Richard moved in after my mother-in-law passed, I tried to be patient. But he was stubborn, opinionated, and always insisted he knew best.
My Garden, My Peace
My backyard garden was my pride and joy. I had nurtured it for years, filling it with colorful flowers and peace. To me, it was more than plants—it was therapy.
Richard, however, saw “wasted space.” He kept suggesting we replace it with a swimming pool. At first, I laughed. Soon, I grew irritated. My husband Tom defended me, reminding his dad how much effort I had poured into the garden and how impractical a pool would be. Richard ignored us.
The Shocking B*trayal
One weekend, Tom and I visited my parents. When we returned, my heart sank. My beautiful garden was gone. In its place, a massive hole scarred the yard, dirt piled high around it. Richard stood grinning, proud of his “surprise.”
Tears streamed down my face. Tom exploded at him.
Karma Steps In
But karma didn’t wait long. Our neighbor, Mrs. Jensen—famous for enforcing rules—spotted the construction and immediately called the city. Within hours, an inspector fined Richard and ordered work to stop.
As if that wasn’t enough, the workers struck an old water pipe. Water gushed into the yard, flooding it into a swamp. Richard slipped in the mud, landing face-first. His suit was ruined, his pride shattered.
Paying the Price
By the end, Richard had to pay the fines, repair the broken pipe, and restore the backyard. It took months, but I replanted my garden.
Now, every bloom feels like a victory.
