My daughter spent time eating in the bathroom with the door locked. I decided to record her to find out why, and what I saw scared me

My Daughter Locked Herself in the Bathroom to Eat — The Shocking Reason

Recently, my 5-year-old daughter started behaving strangely. She had always been obedient, smart, and easygoing, especially with food. Suddenly, a worrying habit appeared.

A Strange New Habit

Every time I called her to dinner, she refused to sit at the table. Instead, she carried her plate into the bathroom, where she had placed a small chair. She locked the door and quietly ate. When she finished, she emerged with an empty plate, acting as if nothing had happened.

Interestingly, she never went to the bathroom to play or sit—only to eat. At first, I thought it was just a phase. But when it continued daily for a whole month, fear started creeping in. Could something be wrong?

Attempting to Understand

Talking to her was useless. She simply stayed silent when I asked why. Determined to find out, I set up a hidden camera in the bathroom the next morning.

When lunchtime came, she carried her plate, locked herself in, and sat down. She ate calmly at first. Then, suddenly, she shouted:

“That’s it! Alex won’t get anything!”

I nearly dropped my phone. Alex is her older brother.

The Truth Comes Out

I called my son and asked sharply, “Do you know why your sister always eats in the bathroom?”

He replied calmly, “Yes, I know.”

I pressed further: “And why?”

His answer shocked me at first: “She’s afraid I’ll steal her food.”

When I asked if he had ever taken her food, he shrugged: “Yes, a couple of times. It’s not my fault hers always tastes better.”

Suddenly, everything clicked. I had imagined terrible scenarios, but the truth was far simpler. My daughter was just protecting her favorite food from her mischievous brother. Her solution? Eat in private, lock the door, and defend her plate at all costs.

A Lesson Learned

Sometimes, strange behaviors have simple explanations. My daughter wasn’t in danger or sick. She was principled, determined, and fiercely protective of what was hers. And while it gave me quite a scare, it also made me admire her cleverness—and her commitment to fairness.
