Mom of Nickelodeon star spotted in the streets opens up about his devastating condition

Former Nickelodeon Star in Spotlight

The mother of Tylor Chase, a former Nickelodeon actor, has shared a sobering update amid growing public concern for her son’s wellbeing. Chase, best known for playing Martin Qwerly on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, recently appeared in a viral TikTok video showing him in a distressed state in Los Angeles.

The clip spread quickly, drawing concern from fans who remembered him from early 2000s children’s television. Now 36, Chase also appeared in Everybody Hates Chris before stepping away from acting around 2011. Since then, he has mostly focused on poetry performances and YouTube content, where he has openly discussed mental health challenges.

Viral Video Sparks Concern

The TikTok video, captioned: “This is so sad I ran into the guy who used to play on Nickelodeon I remember watching him as a kid. If anyone wants to donate, there is a GoFundMe online,” sparked widespread worry.

Following the video, the Riverside Police Department confirmed officers have interacted with Chase but found no criminal activity. Public Information Officer Ryan Railsback told the Daily Mail:

“We do not know how long he has been experiencing homelessness. During all of our interactions, he has been cordial and cooperative with our officers.”

Mother Urges Caution

Chase’s mother has discouraged donations to the GoFundMe campaign, stressing that money would not solve his situation. She explained that Chase struggles to manage finances or his medications independently.

“Money would not benefit him. I have gotten him several phones, but he loses them within a day or two,” she shared in September messages reposted by a TikTok creator.

She added that she has attempted to provide housing, but ongoing substance use and mental health issues have made stability difficult.

“He is a good, sweet kid,” she said. “But he does need medical help.”

Chase Responds

Chase spoke directly to the Daily Mail, disputing claims that he is homeless.

“It’s not really like that. I have friends and family. I stay around here locally. My mom is here. I have a lot of good people helping me,” he said.

He described the support he receives as “graceful charity,” noting that assistance programs and community networks help him get by.

Possible Move to Georgia

Chase revealed he is considering relocating to Georgia to be closer to his father and enroll in a housing assistance program.

“I’m not really active homeless at this time. I would like to go see my dad relatively shortly… probably a housing assistance program in Georgia most likely,” he said.

Spotlight on Former Child Stars

Chase’s situation has renewed discussions about the pressures faced by former child actors. Other Nickelodeon stars, including Amanda Bynes and Drake Bell, have publicly shared struggles with mental health and substance abuse in adulthood.

Fans continue to express concern and hope that Chase receives the professional support he needs moving forward.
