“Mistaken Identity”: Grandmother Shares Her Story After FBI Arrest in Charlie Kirk Case

Suspect in Charlie Kirk Assassination Ordered Held Without Bail. Utah — A 22-year-old man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been ordered held without bail following a court hearing on Friday. Suspect Identified. Court records name the suspect as Tyler Robinson, who has no prior criminal record. He faces charges including aggravated murder, firearm discharge, and obstruction of justice.

Evidence Recovered. Investigators say Robinson fled into a wooded area where they later found a high-powered bolt-action rifle believed to be the weapon used. Unusual ammunition marked with references to video games, internet memes, and the protest song “Bella Ciao” was also found nearby. Experts warn such markings might serve as coded messages within online groups. The FBI Lab is analyzing the rifle and collecting fingerprints and impressions from the scene.

Arrest and Family Role. Authorities confirmed that Robinson’s family helped in his arrest. His father, a veteran officer, recognized him in surveillance footage and confronted him. Robinson reportedly threatened suicide but made a partial confession. Encouraged by a family pastor, he surrendered peacefully to federal agents late Thursday.

Death Penalty Considered. Utah Attorney General Derek Brown told CNN that “everything is on the table,” including the death penalty. Governor Spencer Cox and former President Donald Trump have publicly supported capital punishment for this case.

Background. Robinson was a former scholarship student at Utah State University and lived with his family in Washington, Utah. Relatives say he had become more politically active in recent years and had mentioned Kirk’s planned university visit during a family dinner.
