Meghan appeared on The Jamie Kern Lima Show on April 28, 2025. During the episode, host Jamie Kern Lima shared a touching story.
She recalled a moment when Meghan surprised her with a gift basket during a tough time.
“You dropped off this basket with ice creams and homemade strawberry sauce,” Lima said. “It was like you were in my shoes, feeling what I was feeling.”
The Gift That Stirred Debate
As Lima spoke, an image of the gift appeared onscreen. It showed Straus Family Creamery ice cream, homemade sauce — and a card.
That card sparked the backlash.
It read:
“With the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex”
And it included a crown emblem.

The HRH Title Raises Eyebrows
Critics online immediately noticed the use of “HRH” — Her Royal Highness.
Meghan and Prince Harry had reportedly agreed not to use that title publicly after stepping down from royal duties.
One viewer wrote, “Royal title is WRONG!”
Another called it “a slap in the face to the late queen.”
Backlash Builds Online
More comments followed:
“I thought they couldn’t use HRH?”
“She’s blatantly disrespectful.”
Others accused Meghan of disrespecting Queen Elizabeth II’s wishes and using her title for personal image.
Why the Title Matters
In 2020 and again in 2021, Buckingham Palace confirmed the Sussexes could no longer represent the Queen or use HRH titles for official purposes.
A palace statement from 2021 made it clear:
“The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”
However, the couple still technically retains their HRH status — they just agreed not to use it commercially.
A Representative Speaks Out
In response to the controversy, a Sussex representative clarified:
“They retain the HRH titles, but do not use them for commercial purposes. This was a personal gift.”
Despite the explanation, many online remained critical, viewing the gesture as tone-deaf or self-important.
