Matthew McConaughey’s Subtle Gesture To Prince William & Kate At Wimbledon Goes Viral

The ‘class’ gesture Matthew McConaughey made towards Prince William and Kate Middleton at Wimbledon has received plaudits.

The royal family witnessed Jannik Sinner defeat Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz to become the first Italian to win a Wimbledon singles title.

Innumerable A-listers, like Nicole Kidman, Paul Mescal, and of course McConaughey, were in attendance, including William and Kate.

Sinner said it was “amazing” to meet the royals after the game, and they autographed tennis balls for the kids in exchange.

“I’ve been lucky to meet her (Kate) and the whole family, and it was a very nice moment,” he stated.

However, astute viewers have been examining McConaughey’s response when William and Kate arrived at their seats on X.

Wimbledon posted a video of the American actor rising up when the royals entered their box, earning him praise as a “lovely southern gentleman.”

Americans are not obliged to bow to the royals, however it is considered a display of respect for English people.

Commenting on the clip, one person said, “Matthew McConaughey standing to applaud the Prince & Princess of Wales. What a lovely southern gentleman.”

A third observer referred to the movie star as “the coolest man to ever live,” while a second remarked he had “real class.”

“Matthew was raised right. Always something I have always admired,” added a fourth.

It happened after Kate gave the runner-up medal to Alcaraz and then gave the trophy to Sinner on Centre Court.

As the princess entered the court and started talking to the ball boys and girls on her approach to the trophy ceremony, a spectator yelled, “I love you, Kate.”

Ambrose Caldecott, 11, who has received chemotherapy throughout the past year and was selected to throw the ceremonial coin before the final, met with the royals before she entered Centre Court.

Ambrose, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in March 2024, told Kate about his experiences, to which she replied, “What a brave boy you’ve been.”

“Good luck today, we’ll be cheering you on.”

The princess, who made public her 2024 cancer diagnosis, declared at the beginning of this year that she was cancer-free.

“We spoke about tennis, our favourite sports, what I went through last year and how it affected me,” Ambrose stated.

“She said she knew from her experience in my situation.”
