Marjorie Taylor Greene Slams Trump Over Rob Reiner Death Comments
Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Donald Trump after the former president offered a shocking explanation for why he believes Rob Reiner was found dead.
Tragic Discovery in Los Angeles
On Sunday, December 14, Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were discovered brutally murdered inside their Los Angeles mansion. Authorities confirmed both victims suffered stab wounds. There were no signs of forced entry, and the case is being treated as an “apparent homicide.”
The couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested at 9:15 PM that night and officially booked by 5:04 AM the next morning. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department listed the case as a felony-level offense handled under the LAPD’s gang activity division. Nick remains in custody at the LAPD Jail Division.
Trump Responds With Controversial Claim
While the investigation continues, Donald Trump weighed in with his own theory, blaming what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) for Reiner’s death.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”
He added, “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession with President Donald J. Trump… May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Greene Condemns Trump’s Remarks
Greene, once a vocal Trump supporter, swiftly condemned the statement, calling it inappropriate and out of touch.
“Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues. Their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak,” she wrote.
She emphasized, “This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies. Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues.” Greene added, “It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy, especially when it ends in murder.”
Reiner’s Political Voice
Rob Reiner had frequently criticized Trump. In a February 2024 interview with The Guardian, he warned that Trump posed a threat to democracy:
“Do we want to continue 249 years of self-rule and American democracy? Or do we want to turn it over to somebody like Donald Trump who has said that he wants to destroy the constitution? He’s a criminal who basically lies every minute of his life.”
Earlier, on MSNBC, Reiner declared, “Make no mistake. We have a year before this country becomes a full-on autocracy and democracy completely leaves us.”
Family and Public Tributes
Rob and Michele married in 1989 after meeting on the set of When Harry Met Sally… They shared three children: sons Jake and Nick, and daughter Romy. The news has shocked Hollywood and political circles alike.
Tracy, Reiner’s eldest daughter adopted during his marriage to actress Penny Marshall, expressed her grief to NBC News: “I came from the greatest family ever. I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
Former President Barack Obama wrote on X: “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele… They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass noted that Reiner “always used his gifts in service of others,” while California Governor Gavin Newsom called him a “big-hearted genius” who made California “a better place through his good works.” Author Stephen King added: “I’m horrified and saddened by the death of Rob Reiner and Michele. Wonderful friend, political ally, and brilliant filmmaker… Rest in peace, Rob. You always stood by me.”
