Wade Seago of rural Samson, Alabama, was surprised when his dog’s barking led him to find an 820-pound feral hog near his front porch. Concerned for his family and dog’s safety, Seago grabbed his revolver and fired three shots to kill the massive animal.
Seago, a taxidermist and hunter, weighed the hog the next day and planned to mount its head for display. He discarded the meat, fearing it was unsafe to eat due to humidity.
Feral hogs are invasive in Alabama, causing significant agricultural damage. State law allows hunters to kill unlimited hogs on private land to control the population.
Seago said he wouldn’t hesitate to shoot another if needed to protect his family.
