Family Grapples With Tragic Loss
The community mourns three young siblings who died in a fire at a Kenosha, Wisconsin, apartment complex on Thursday, November 27. While authorities continue investigating, the children’s parents are publicly offering different accounts of what happened that night.
Siblings Trapped in Flames
The victims were brothers Connor, 10, and Rylee, 9, and their 7-year-old sister, Alena Kannin. Around 10:39 p.m., the Kenosha Fire and Police Departments responded to a structure fire on 43rd Avenue.
Firefighters found the apartment engulfed in flames. The two boys were declared dead at the scene. Alena was airlifted to a hospital but later succumbed to severe burns. Their father, Joshua Kannin, was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Authorities continue investigating the fire’s cause.
Mother Questions Timeline and Actions
The children’s mother, Jourdan Feasby, posted a detailed account on Facebook. She said she spent Thanksgiving morning with the children before dropping them off at their father’s apartment. She stressed that she is not attacking Joshua but questions his version of events.
Jourdan noted smoke detectors had reportedly been removed because Joshua smoked indoors. She questioned why he appeared unharmed while the children suffered fatal burns.
“My kids’ father said he woke up seeing and smelling smoke. My daughter was sleeping in bed with him. Wouldn’t you grab your daughter first, then check the boys’ room?” she wrote.
She also questioned why Joshua ran outside instead of calling 911 or attempting to rescue the children. Jourdan highlighted inconsistencies, including his sister’s account of trying to help, yet reportedly taking no medical precautions despite heavy smoke exposure.

Mother’s Call for Justice
Jourdan continues to seek answers. She has asked the public for any Ring or cellphone footage from that night. She reiterated her commitment to the investigation and justice:
“I will get that justice, babies!! Mommy won’t fail you!! You deserve at least this, since I couldn’t fix other things to keep you here with me!”
She also clarified that she is cooperating fully with investigators.
Father’s Account Under Scrutiny
Joshua Kannin told investigators that he went to bed after the children and awoke to irritation in his eyes. He claimed he noticed a small fire in the kitchen, panicked, and ran outside to seek help, leaving the children inside. He reportedly shouted for them to come downstairs.
Joshua admitted to smoking in the kitchen earlier but believed he had extinguished the cigarette. First responders later found the children in separate areas, consistent with their reported locations during the fire.
Authorities also examined Joshua’s phone and found no evidence of criminal activity. However, the investigation is ongoing, with officials exploring possible arson or homicide under Wisconsin law.
Lieutenant Joshua Hecker of KPD emphasized:
“This is a complex and evolving case. We remain committed to a thorough, impartial, and evidence-driven investigation.”
Neighbors Shocked by Tragedy
The fire left neighbors devastated. LaToya Cook, who lives in the same building, said:
“It makes me sick to my stomach. I don’t want to drive past it, but I have to. I’m keeping the family in my prayers.”
Final Goodbyes
Services were held for Connor, Rylee, and Alena. Jourdan spoke about the children during the gathering, while Joshua attended but did not address mourners. A GoFundMe was set up for funeral expenses, raising $61,805 of a $70,000 goal by the time of publication.
Jourdan described how the holiday season, once filled with excitement, turned into a time for mourning: a period meant for shopping and celebration became a time for planning caskets. The light her children brought into her life was suddenly gone.
