The Unscripted Moment

On May 24, during the commencement at Truist Arena, Northern Kentucky University, Price was initially allowed to thank Jesus in his speech. However, he went further, urging his fellow Christians to stand firm in their faith. “Class, before another word leaves my mouth, I must give honor, praise, and glory to my lord and savior Jesus Christ,” he declared, receiving applause from the audience.

Price continued passionately, “Who in his very words tells us he is the light, the way, the truth, and the life. If you don’t have these things in your life, my lord and savior is your answer.” His heartfelt words were met with admiration, but school officials were not pleased with his unscripted remarks.

Confrontation and Consequences

After the speech, school officials approached Price, informing him that he would need to explain his actions to the school board. They reprimanded him and initially withheld his diploma. “After the speech, one of the principals tapped me on the shoulder and professionally told me I’d have to face the board for going off script,” Price shared in a TikTok video.

School’s Response

The Campbell County School District had approved Price’s mention of Jesus but required him to stick to the pre-approved script. Superintendent Shelli Wilson defended the school’s stance, explaining that deviating from the script could lead to repercussions, as it could disrupt the ceremony or promote political or religious agendas.

Standing Firm in His Faith

Despite the reprimand, Price remained unapologetic. He explained that the original script had included his additional preaching, but the school asked him to remove it to avoid dividing the audience. “I think thanking Him was fine, but urging others to stand up might have been the issue,” Price told WKRC.

A Grateful Conclusion

Despite the consequences, Price bore no ill will toward the officials, taking full responsibility for his actions. “I do no one’s bidding but God. If I’m in the wrong, I’m willing to accept punishment,” he said. After a long weekend, he received his diploma, calling it “an answered prayer.”

Faith, Conviction, and the Future

Micah Price, soon to join the US Air Force Academy, remains firm in his beliefs. “Holding it is just an answered prayer,” he said, proud of standing by his faith. His actions serve as a reminder of the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs, inspiring others to be courageous in the face of adversity.
