Kathy Bates stuns with new look at Golden Globes

The Golden Globe Awards is always a night of glamour, but this year, Kathy Bates stole the spotlight for a different reason. While she is known for her acting chops, this time at the awards, she turned heads for a different reason.

The Hollywood icon crushed her red carpet look in an elegant outfit that she effortlessly paired with her timeless charm, a pair of sneakers, and a shocking transformation that people can’t stop talking about.

The 76-year-old icon, nominated for her starring role in the TV series Matlock, rocked a stunning beaded dinner jacket, perfectly cinched at the waist, that she effortlessly paired with her radiant presence. Kathy Bates’ silver locks were styled in a retro half-updo full of bounce and glam, giving her look a playful yet elegant vibe.

And her Sneex footwear – trendy sneaker-heel hybrid shoes from Spanx – perfectly complemented her spirited energy.

The shoes, that “combines the elegance of high heels with the ease and comfort of sneakers,” captured the attention of fans, many who didn’t realize the comfy footwear had a little lift.

“Tennis shoes for the WIN!” writes one fan of her shoes, the same brand that People reports were worn by Reese Witherspoon on the set of The Morning Show. A second shares, “Sometimes the feet demand sneakers. I’ve been there.” Praising her bold choice A third offers, “When I’m 76 and invited to the golden globe awards, I’m going to wear my sneakers also!!”

Weight loss journey

But the real scene-stealer at the Golden Globes was Bates’ dramatic weight loss, which she previously debuted in September at the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Motivated to get healthy after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis in 2017, which followed a battle with two cancers and her ongoing fight with lymphedema, the About Schmidt star told People that “[diabetes] terrified me. It scared me straight.”

The Misery star then addressed the swirling rumors about her using Ozempic to lose 100 pounds. She revealed that in the past seven years, she lost 80 pounds through lifestyle and diet changes and then used Ozempic to shed the final 20 pounds.

“There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic,” the Oscar-winning actor clarifies. “But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.”

Fans can’t get enough

Social media platforms exploded with reactions to Bates’ transformation, with fans gushing over the Dolores Claiborne star and her new look.

“Looking amazing Kathy. You are amazing,” writes one about her trendy look at the Golden Globes. “A beautiful talented lady at any size!” shares another, while a third offers, “Looks great Kathy Bates. Lovely.”

Meanwhile, other netizens were focused on how she shed the extra pounds.

“Shocking weight loss,” writes one, emphasizing the message with an eye roll emoji. A second cyber fan introduced Ozempic into the conversation: “Ozempic really is Hollywood’s new bestie,” the user writes.

But Bates’ loyal fans jumped in and defended the star of American Horror Story.

One asks, “Why is mentioning that weight loss necessary?” And a second writes, “Why so judgmental? People take medication for all sorts of things.”

Another delivers a verbal warning to the trolls: “Some of y’all need a swift sledgehammer to the ankles for these [shitty] comments,” the user writes.

We think Kathy Bates looks fabulous and no matter how she lost the weight, we’re happy to see her living healthy!
