A Legendary Star Passes

June Lockhart, a shining star of America’s Golden Age, has passed away. The beloved actress, known for her roles in Lassie and Lost in Space, died just months after celebrating her 100th birthday.

The news broke on Saturday, October 25, sparking an outpouring of grief online. Fans shared heartfelt tributes, remembering a woman who lit up screens for generations.

“So sad to lose a legend like June Lockhart,” one fan wrote. “Loved her in everything she did. Now she has become a Traveler, and may her travels be as wonderful as she was. God bless you.”

Another added, “Thank you for the memories. RIP. Blessings to the family.”

A Quiet Farewell

Lockhart passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 9:20 p.m. in Santa Monica, California. Her daughter, June Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Christianna, were by her side. Officials confirmed her death resulted from natural causes.

Born into the Spotlight

June Lockhart entered the world in 1925 in New York City, daughter of actors Gene and Kathleen Lockhart. She began performing at just eight years old, appearing in a Metropolitan Opera production of Peter Ibbetson.

By her teenage years, she starred in films, including the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol, alongside her parents. Her first line on screen, “I know, I know — sausages!” became a family joke repeated for generations.

From Hollywood to the Stars

Lockhart transitioned to television in 1949 with The Ford Theatre Hour, earning acclaim on Broadway. In 1958, she joined Lassie as Ruth Martin, forming a lasting bond with co-star Jon Provost, who played Timmy.

After Lassie ended in 1965, Lockhart explored the cosmos with Lost in Space, portraying the intelligent, composed matriarch of the Robinson family. She remained active well into her later years, starring in the 2016 film The Remake and making a cameo in Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot in 2021.

“I’ve had many opportunities drop into my lap,” she once reflected. “I feel 55, even at 90. I’m very fortunate to still be active and working.”

Tributes from Friends and Fans

Co-stars and friends paid tribute to Lockhart’s kindness and professionalism. Jon Provost called her his “second mother,” recalling how she guided him on set with patience and care.

Bill Mumy, her Lost in Space co-star, wrote, “Goodbye to the brilliant June Lockhart. Talented, nurturing, adventurous. She did it her way. June will always be one of my favorite moms. 100 years here. Wow! R.I.P.”

Angela Cartwright, who played her daughter on the show, said, “I’ll always treasure our time together on and off the screen.” Even musician Huey Lewis remembered her warmly, noting she had been a devoted fan of his early performances.

A Legacy That Shines

June Lockhart leaves behind a legacy that spans generations, from Christmas classics to space adventures. She entertained millions and inspired countless others with her talent, grace, and warmth. Her light, once bright on every living room screen, now lives on in the memories of fans and family alike.
