The Grease Phenomenon
Grease is a timeless musical known by many. Even if you haven’t seen it, you’ve likely heard some of its iconic songs.
Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson
Back in the summer of 1978, teenage hearts raced when they first saw Danny Zuko in his leather jacket. The tough yet charming Danny fell for Sandy Olsson, a sweet Australian girl, in a summer of unforgettable dance moves and the unforgettable Pink Ladies.
The Reunion
After summer ended, Sandy returned to Australia. The couple thought they’d never meet again… until Sandy appeared at a football game as a new student at Danny’s school. Danny, ever the rogue, acted as though their summer love never happened, but soon he couldn’t resist the stunning Sandy.
A Lasting Legacy
The film remains etched in my mind, with its songs and dance moves still vivid. It turns out, I’m not alone.
Travolta Reflects on Grease
To celebrate Grease’s 40th anniversary, John Travolta, who played Danny, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Travolta shared the origin of one iconic dance from the film.
“I grew up with all these novelty dances,” Travolta explained. “For ‘You’re the One That I Want,’ I suggested we do the four corners dance, and the choreographer asked me to show it.”
Travolta Still Has It
Fallon eagerly requested that Travolta demonstrate, and, of course, the live Grease music kicked in. The audience cheered as Travolta showed off those iconic moves once more.
