John Mellencamp has shared a brief and emotional update about his daughter, Teddi Mellencamp, as she continues to battle stage 4 cancer.
During an appearance on the The Joe Rogan Experience on Wednesday, Jan. 14, the 74-year-old musician spoke candidly about his family and revealed that Teddi, 44, is “really sick,” according to People. Mellencamp did not go into further detail but acknowledged the seriousness of her condition while discussing personal challenges in his life.
“It’s not f—ing fun,” John said. “She’s got cancer in the brain, and she’s suffering right now.”
John’s update comes as a shock after Teddi previously shared hopeful news about her health. In October 2025, Teddi Mellencamp revealed that her stage 4 cancer was “gone,” leading many to believe she was in remission.
“Just to give a little life update to you guys, I had my immunotherapy yesterday and I did my scans and at this point there is no detectable cancer,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum shared more details about her health during the Oct. 3 episode of Two T’s in a Pod, which she typically cohosts with Tamra Judge, while speaking with co-host Dolores Catania.
Teddi Mellencamp explained that learning her cancer was no longer detectable left her stunned and emotionally numb. However, she emphasized that her fight was far from over. She said she would continue to experience difficult days and ongoing side effects because she remains in immunotherapy and is still actively battling the disease.
At the time, Teddi shared that her treatment plan included a full year of immunotherapy. She also clarified that she was not considered in remission, stressing that continued treatment was necessary despite the encouraging news.
“The way the [doctors] said it works, it’s like one year, then two years, then at three years you’re allowed to be considered … in remission. So, but that was huge news yesterday.”
Teddi Mellencamp has previously been open about the seriousness of her diagnosis, revealing that doctors gave her a “50/50” chance of survival. Her cancer journey began in 2022, when she was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma — the most dangerous form of skin cancer — on her back.
Since then, Teddi has undergone 17 surgeries to treat the aggressive disease. In April 2025, she shared another devastating update, announcing that the cancer had spread to her brain and lungs. To fight the tumors, she has received a combination of immunotherapy, radiation, and surgery.
