JD Vance reveals why Christian values are key to America’s future during TPUSA tribute to Charlie Kirk

JD Vance Honors Charlie Kirk, Emphasizes Christian Values

Vice President JD Vance spoke at a Turning Point USA gathering at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) to honor the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He credited Kirk with shaping his faith and told students that a “properly rooted Christian moral order” is vital for America’s future.

After remarks from Kirk’s widow, Erika, Vance took the stage. He briefly addressed the audience before answering questions on topics ranging from immigration and National Guard deployments to the Second Amendment. Several questions, however, focused on Vance’s faith and its influence on his work as vice president. Students asked about religious liberty and how he raises his family in a household where his wife, Usha, is Hindu.

Christian Values at the Core

“I make no apologies for believing Christian values are a key foundation of this country,” Vance said. “Anyone claiming neutrality likely has an agenda. I’m honest about the fact that I think America’s Christian foundation is a good thing.”

Vance criticized contemporary liberalism, calling it a “perverted version of Christianity.” He explained:

“Focusing on the disenfranchised is fine. But separating it from religious duty or civic virtue can encourage lawlessness. You can’t show compassion for criminals without also upholding justice. That’s why a Christian moral order matters for our country’s future.”

He argued that God need not be removed from public life, claiming that the founders never intended it. “Those who say the Constitution requires it are lying,” Vance added. He blamed Supreme Court interpretations for excluding religion from public spaces and said the country still suffers the consequences.

Balancing Faith and Family

Vance also discussed his interfaith household. He admitted he was not Christian when he met Usha. Over time, they chose to raise their children Christian. He emphasized communication and mutual respect in their marriage.

“Most Sundays, she attends church with me,” Vance said. “I hope she eventually experiences what moved me. But if she doesn’t, God has given everyone free will, and that’s fine.”

Charlie Kirk’s Lasting Impact

Vance reflected on Kirk’s influence on his faith. He said Kirk encouraged him to speak openly about his beliefs.

“Charlie helped me grow up again in a generation where people often kept their faith private. The reason I strive to be the best husband, father, and leader is that I feel called to do the most good for God and for the country I love. That’s how my faith guides me.”
