FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino Reopens Investigations Into Unresolved High-Profile Incidents

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has announced the reopening and renewed attention toward several high-profile investigations that previously saw limited progress. The move comes as part of a broader initiative to refocus federal investigative efforts on unresolved matters that have drawn public interest.

Among the cases receiving renewed focus are the unsolved attempted pipe bombing near the Capitol, the discovery of cocaine at the White House in 2023, and the unprecedented leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion in the Dobbs decision, which eventually led to a reversal of Roe v. Wade.

“These are cases the public has rightfully asked questions about,” Bongino said in a recent statement. “We are working to bring clarity, accountability, and transparency to investigations that may have previously stalled or lacked adequate resources.”

Renewed Investigative Push

Bongino confirmed that the FBI is in the final stages of assembling new reform teams to bolster investigative capabilities. He noted that the hiring process is nearly complete, which will support the agency’s intensified approach to case reviews and public integrity investigations.

“Since stepping into our new roles, the Director and I have been evaluating several cases that the public continues to ask about,” he said. “We decided to re-open some of these or apply additional resources to move them forward. We receive regular updates and are making progress.”

Focus on Three Unresolved Incidents

  1. DC Pipe Bombing (2021): On the eve of January 6, 2021, unexploded pipe bombs were discovered near the headquarters of both major political parties in Washington, D.C. The incident prompted widespread concern and a federal investigation, but to date, no suspect has been publicly identified.

  2. White House Cocaine Discovery (2023): A small quantity of cocaine was found in a secured area of the White House complex in July 2023. Despite heavy security protocols, the investigation at the time concluded without identifying the individual responsible. Bongino has since suggested that there may be more information yet to be fully explored or disclosed.

  3. Supreme Court Draft Leak: In an unprecedented breach of confidentiality, a draft opinion from the Supreme Court related to the Dobbs v. Jackson case was leaked to the public before a final ruling was issued. The leak sparked nationwide controversy and raised questions about judicial security and internal court processes.

Communication Approach and Public Engagement

The Deputy Director acknowledged the public’s growing demand for transparency and pledged to share more updates in writing when possible.

“Our offices operate under secure conditions, and we’ve been deliberate in minimizing our media presence to focus on the work itself,” Bongino explained. “But we recognize the importance of keeping the public informed, and we’re working to close that information gap.”

He invited anyone with relevant information or credible tips related to the three cases to contact the FBI.

Calls for Accountability and Institutional Integrity

In a past interview, Bongino spoke about the cocaine incident and the difficulty many within law enforcement felt about how the case was handled. While not naming individuals, he expressed confidence that identifying the person responsible should have been possible due to the limited access to secure White House areas.

“There’s a process and technology in place that should help pinpoint who came and went,” Bongino noted. “The real question is whether all the tools available were fully used.”

Looking Ahead

As federal agencies continue to evolve, this latest push by FBI leadership may signal a broader commitment to resolving longstanding unanswered questions. The renewed efforts reflect a growing interest in ensuring that all investigative matters—especially those of public concern—are pursued thoroughly, regardless of past outcomes or delays.

For now, the public waits to see whether these cases, some dormant for years, will finally lead to answers.
