Individuals who identify as ‘Abrosexual’ explain its meaning.

What Is Abrosexuality?

Abrosexuality refers to a fluid sexual orientation that changes over time. According to Medical News Today, an abrosexual person may experience shifts in attraction daily, weekly, or even hourly. This fluidity reflects that sexuality exists on a spectrum, allowing people to feel drawn to different sexualities at different times.

Healthline explains that abrosexuality is not just about changing labels; it’s about a genuine evolution of sexual identity over time.

Personal Experiences of Abrosexuality

Emma Flint, an abrosexual writer, shared her journey with Metro. She described how her sexual feelings fluctuated, saying, “One day I felt like a lesbian, and later, I felt more aligned with bisexuality. My sexuality was fluid.” Before understanding the term abrosexuality, she often felt confused and even like a fraud due to her shifting identity.

Emma shared that it took her three decades to understand her fluid sexuality. “I discovered abrosexuality at 30, after struggling for years with my changing attraction. I would beat myself up for being unsure, but it wasn’t indecisiveness—it was my evolving identity.”

Abrosexuality on Social Media

On TikTok, @zoebriskey explained that abrosexuality is a fluid sexual orientation, distinguishing it from pansexuality. They noted that someone may identify as pansexual at certain points in their life. The term “abro” comes from the Greek word for “delicate” or “graceful,” reflecting the fluid nature of the experience.

A Reddit user shared their perspective, noting that some people experience a switch between just two sexualities, while others identify with several. “I alternate between being attracted to men and women,” they shared.

Rising Awareness

Though the term isn’t new, awareness of abrosexuality is growing. In 2021, Michelle Visage, a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, posted the abrosexual pride flag on Instagram. This flag, featuring five colors, was first introduced on Tumblr in 2013.

As more individuals share their stories, the understanding of abrosexuality continues to evolve, emphasizing the importance of embracing diverse sexual identities.
