Hollywood Star’s Surprising Eighth Marriage Anniversary

Exactly 34 years ago, Hollywood witnessed one of its most unexpected love stories. On October 6, 1991, legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor married construction worker Larry Fortensky at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch. Their paths first crossed three years earlier at the Betty Ford Clinic, a place meant for healing rather than romance.

Taylor, 56, and Fortensky, 36, bonded over shared vulnerability, honesty, and the kind of openness that fame often makes impossible. She admired his straightforward nature; he adored the woman beyond the global superstar persona. By 1988, Larry had moved into her Beverly Hills estate, stepping into a world far from his blue-collar roots. Their wedding, held outdoors at Neverland, became a media sensation.

Over 200 celebrity guests attended, paparazzi circled above, and even a parachuting photographer captured the moment. Among the attendees were stars like Liza Minnelli, Eddie Murphy, and former First Lady Nancy Reagan. Yet beneath the spectacle was a genuine connection founded on warmth, humor, and a shared appreciation for simple joys. They reveled in ordinary pleasures together — Harley rides through quiet streets, making snow angels during European winters, and sneaking burgers at biker bars.

Despite the luxury Taylor provided, Larry refused to live off her wealth, valuing his independence and integrity. Over time, however, the pressures of Taylor’s fame and health challenges strained the marriage, leading to their amicable divorce in 1996. Taylor granted him over $1 million, a gesture reflecting their enduring respect and affection. Even after parting ways, their bond remained. They stayed in touch through phone calls and quiet support. When Taylor passed in 2011, Larry mourned deeply. He himself passed in 2016, closing a chapter on one of Hollywood’s most unlikely yet heartfelt love stories, a reminder that connection can flourish in the most unexpected circumstances.
