Here’s Why You Should Always Leave A Coin In The Freezer Before You Leave The House

Have you ever came from work, or after a vacation and noticed that your digital clock is showing the wrong time?

“Certainly there was no power outage” You might think. Even if there was, you simply cannot figure out how long there was no electricity.

Maybe it lasted for a few days, leading to defrost food and its deterioration. When electricity comes back, foods freezes again and you almost do not notice that they were defrosted.

As we all know, this can be very dangerous, because some foods have a high risk of spreading salmonella and other harmful bacteria!

Today we will reveal a trick to find out if – and how long your freezer was without electricity.

You will be able to find out whether the food has gone bad by being too long defrosted.

For this you need 3 simple things:

  • a cup
  • coin
  • water

Pour water into a bowl and place it in the freezer to frost. When in the cup remains only ice, put a coin on the top of the cup and return it to the freezer.

When you come back home after the holidays, before eating any food from the freezer, look where the coin is!

If the coin is still at the top you are good to go, but, if the coin is now at the bottom of the cup/bowl, it means that electricity was out for a long time, so the water completely dissolved, and the coin sank all the way to the bottom of the cup/bowl. It would be wise not to consume the food from the freezer…

Brilliant trick, easy to use. Especially useful when you go on a long trip!
