As the nation grapples with the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk, attention has turned not only to the accused gunman, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, but also to the family he left reeling. Now, a neighbor has broken her silence, describing the Robinsons as a “good, God-fearing family” devastated by the ordeal.
A Family Torn Apart
Kristin Schwiermann, 66, who lives near the Robinsons in Washington, Utah, told the Daily Express US she could hardly fathom the anguish they must be enduring.
“To have your own son supposedly confess to something like that and then be faced with the choice of turning him in, it must have torn them apart,” she said.
Schwiermann praised Tyler’s mother, Amber, calling her the “loveliest woman anyone could ever meet.” She added: “They love their children, they’ve raised them right. This is not the kind of home you’d expect something like this to come out of. The pain they must be in, it’s unimaginable.”

The Arrest
Authorities say Tyler confessed to his father, Matt Robinson, who then sought guidance from a youth minister. That tip eventually reached the U.S. Marshals Service, triggering a swift arrest Thursday night.
Governor Spencer Cox announced the capture at a press conference, declaring: “We got him.” FBI Director Kash Patel later described the arrest as “historic,” noting that the manhunt ended in just 33 hours.
Robinson now faces aggravated murder charges, with prosecutors signaling they will pursue the death penalty. Federal prosecutors are also preparing their own indictment, which could carry capital punishment.
Disturbing Evidence
Investigators say Robinson had spoken at a family dinner about his dislike for Kirk, calling him “full of hate and spreading hate.” Authorities later discovered engraved bullet casings near the abandoned rifle believed to have been used in the attack. The inscriptions included “Hey fascist! Catch!”, “If you read this, you are gay LMAO”, and the anti-fascist anthem lyric “Bella Ciao.”
Officials also revealed Discord messages in which Robinson allegedly discussed stashing his rifle in a bush, engraving bullets, and even changing clothes after the shooting.
A Jarring Contrast
The revelations stand in stark contrast to the Robinson family’s public image. Social media shows holiday photos, smiling selfies, and Amber proudly celebrating her son’s acceptance into Utah State University on a scholarship in 2021. Robinson, however, dropped out after one semester and was later enrolled in an electrical apprenticeship program.
A Community in Shock
For neighbors like Schwiermann, the case is almost impossible to reconcile with the family they thought they knew. “People here know them as a loving family,” she said softly. “That’s what makes it so hard to understand.”
