Get to Know JD and Usha Vance’s Expanding Family: Everything About Their Three Kids and Incoming Baby

JD and Usha Vance Announce Fourth Child Amid Public Duties

Before the news went public, it appeared quietly on Vice President JD Vance’s official stationery. The announcement balanced national service with family life, hinting at a personal milestone behind the political headlines.

This intimate tone reflects the Vances’ household, where private moments and public responsibilities coexist. Understanding their story requires looking back to where JD and Usha first met, long before politics brought them national attention.

From Yale Law to Marriage

JD Vance and Usha crossed paths at Yale Law School. In 2013, they organized a discussion on “social decline in white America,” a topic deeply personal to JD, who grew up in Ohio’s economically depressed areas.

For Usha, daughter of Indian immigrants raised in San Diego, the experience was equally formative. They dated for several years before national politics thrust them into the spotlight.

The couple married in Kentucky in 2014. Their ceremony blended traditions, with an outdoor service and a blessing from a Hindu pundit, reflecting the cultural mix that defines their family life.

Usha: Driven Beyond the Spotlight

Friends and classmates describe Usha as confident and ambitious. A family friend recalled, “By age 5 or 6, she naturally took charge of games and rules. She was never mean, just the boss.”

In high school, Usha excelled academically, played the flute, and thrived in competitive environments. At Yale, she majored in history, tutored public school students, volunteered with the homeless, edited an education magazine, and learned ballet folklórico dances.

She later earned a Gates Cambridge Scholarship at the University of Cambridge, researching copyright law. Professionally, Usha clerked for the Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals before joining Munger, Tolles & Olson as an associate.

Balancing Public Roles and Private Values

In 2015, the Vances moved to San Francisco to advance their careers—Usha at the law firm, JD at Mithril Capital. Years later, Usha introduced JD at the Republican National Convention, highlighting their different backgrounds: “That JD and I could meet and marry is a testament to this great country,” she said.

Their shared journey continues at home. JD and Usha are parents to three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. Despite their high-profile careers, they often share glimpses of family life. JD once paused a Senate debate to read a Dr. Seuss book to Vivek, blending fatherhood with public duties.

A Fourth Child on the Way

Recently, the Vances confirmed via Usha’s social media that they are expecting their fourth child, a boy, due in late July 2026. The announcement, made on official vice-presidential stationery, emphasized gratitude for military doctors and staff supporting their family.

“We are very excited to share that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child,” the post read. “Usha and the baby are doing well, and we look forward to welcoming him in late July. We are particularly grateful for the military doctors who care for our family while allowing us to serve the country.”

The post underscores how the Vances balance personal milestones with public service, showing that even amid national responsibilities, family moments remain central to their lives.

Family Life in Focus

The Vances regularly involve their children in public service events. From serving meals to military personnel to attending international visits, JD and Usha integrate their children into meaningful experiences.

As the family prepares to welcome their newest member, their story highlights the harmony between private joy and public duty—a rare glimpse of intimacy in the life of the nation’s vice president.
