From a blind date to a terrifying crash and a life of gratitude – a look inside Bret Baier’s family

From meeting his wife on a blind date to surviving a serious car crash with his kids, Fox News anchor Bret Baier’s family journey has been anything but ordinary.

Southern charm meets Chicago roots

Bret Baier, Fox News’ chief political anchor, may be known for grilling political power players on national TV — but behind the camera, he’s a devoted husband and father who’s been through it all.

He met his wife Amy back in September 2001, thanks to a setup from mutual friends.

“I’m not sure why they thought it would work,” Amy once told Country Magazine“But they had a good feeling… They did warn me to buckle up — that a life with Bret Baier would be an interesting ride.”

It was a match from the start. “Bret was such a gentleman,” she added. “He’s from Atlanta and has that Southern charm. We’ve been together ever since.”

20 years strong

The couple tied the knot in October 2004 in Amy’s hometown of Chicago.

“I’ve always wanted to live in Chicago, but Bret says he would only move there if they move the nation’s capital,” Amy joked.

She also admitted Bret had to “run the gauntlet” to win over her father and three brothers.

In October 2023, the couple marked their 20th wedding anniversary. Amy celebrated with a heartfelt post:

“Happy 20th Anniversary @bretbaier! I love you! #myeverything”

Two sons, one strong family motto

Bret and Amy share two sons — Paul, born in 2007, and Daniel, born in 2010.

Their firstborn, Paul, was born with congenital heart disease and underwent complex surgery as a baby. The experience changed their lives.

“We have a saying in the Baier family — ‘gratitude is the attitude,’” Amy told People in 2024. “We learned that from Paul.”

She added that focusing on what they’re thankful for has helped them get through even the most difficult times.

The Montana crash that changed everything

In January 2019, the family faced another life-altering moment during a trip to Montana. While driving, their SUV hit a patch of ice and flipped into a ditch after being struck by a pickup truck.

“We slid into the intersection of a busy road… a big pickup slammed into our driver’s side,” Bret later explained on air.

“The air bags deployed. The windows shattered. We careened into a ditch and flipped sideways.”

Miraculously, everyone survived with minor injuries — though Bret suffered a concussion, stitches, and a sprained ankle.

“I had to be here today to show you I’m OK,” he told viewers afterward. “Count your blessings.”

A family built on faith and resilience

While Bret Baier continues to cover politics from Washington, his home life — shaped by love, near-tragedy, and gratitude — remains his true anchor.

Whether it’s navigating a medical crisis or celebrating a milestone anniversary, the Baier family has faced every moment together — and always with heart.
