Melania Trump Breaks Protocol at Major White House Event
Melania Trump just broke political protocol during a high-profile White House event. On Monday, May 19, President Donald Trump signed the Take It Down Act into law—an initiative Melania strongly supported.
What the Law Does
The new legislation imposes federal penalties for online se**al exploitation. It makes it a crime to knowingly publish—or thre.aten to publish—intimate images without consent, including AI-generated “deepfakes.”
Websites and social media platforms must remove the material within 48 hours of a vic.tim’s request. They must also ensure duplicate content is deleted, according to AP News.
A First Lady’s Historic Move
In an unprecedented move, Melania Trump also signed the bill. While symbolic—since she’s not an elected official—her signature marked a rare step outside traditional First Lady roles.
Calling the law a “national victory,” she emphasized its power to protect children from digital exploitation, especially through AI-generated images.
A Strong Warning About Technology
“AI and social media are the digital candy for the next generation—sweet, addictive, and designed to influence cognitive development,” Melania said.
“But unlike sugar, these technologies can be wea.ponized, shape beliefs, harm emotions, and even be de.adly.”
Trump Praises Melania’s Efforts
President Trump praised Melania’s role in the bill’s passage.
“C’mon, sign it anyway,” he said, encouraging her signature. “She deserves to sign it.”
He added: “Honey, you’ve done amazing. I said, this sounds like a tough one—but it’s important. And you got it done.”
White House Affirms Melania’s Role
During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Melania’s influence.
“First Lady Melania Trump was instrumental in getting this important legislation passed,” Leavitt said.
She noted that the law will hold platforms accountable and give vic.tims a path to justice. Melania met with lawmakers, survivors, and advocates throughout the legislative process.
Continuing Her “Be Best” Campaign
Melania’s work on the Take It Down Act continues her Be Best campaign, launched during Trump’s first term. That initiative focuses on children’s well-being, online behavior, and opioid ab.use.
