People use air fryers for everything; from frying frozen fries to whipping up a gourmet meal from scratch. People these days adore the contraption for how convenient it makes cooking.

Air fryers are beneficial in making healthy food but it turns out there are some health risks they can pose. And there are some recipes in an air fryers that you should never attempt.

There are thousands, if not millions, of air fryer recipes out there available on the internet. But there is one particular item that you should not cook in the air fryer as it can be dangerous.

The air fryer does not cook the item properly and it can also pose a danger to you. Journalist Grace Forell, said on the BBC, “No, don’t try this one at home.

“Popcorn won’t cook well in an air fryer as most models won’t reach the required temperature to pop the kernels,” she shared.

She added, “Popcorn kernels can also become lodged within the air fryer’s heating element, which may cause the appliance to short, creating a fire hazard.”

There are some people who have attempted to make popcorn in an air fryer. One air fryer user took to Reddit to ask what the best way to make popcorn would be in the device.

“I see everyone saying not to do it because of risk of fire,” they wrote in reply.

“Why can’t you put aluminum over the entirety of the hot plate like you should do with anything anyways to keep it clean?”

“Or even more so, do that and wrap it around the top for the popcorn kernels to pop into?”

People began to warn the user. One person explained, “When a kernel flies into the fan and bangs around and you swear for a hour while trying to get it out, you will wish you hadn’t. Please don’t.”

Another person also had some thoughts and shared, “Or when the air fryer scorches the popped kernels, the smell will also make you wish you hadn’t.”

Another person who had tried the same thing earlier, “So I’m telling you, not from theory, but actual experience, that the air fryer does not work

“If you are trying to just pop a bag in without doing anything else fancy. 400 degrees [Farenheit] will get me right there on the edge, but not over the popping threshold,” one person shared.

People wanted to discourage the idea of making popcorn in an air fryer. One person was exasperated and asked, “Why would you want to when there are so many easier better ways to make popcorn?”

Forrell advised people to “Stick with the microwave or the hob for popcorn if you’re settling down for a good movie night!”
