EXCLUSIVE: Nikki DeLoach Honors the Heroes Who Saved Her Son’s Life – A Mother’s Heartfelt Tribute to Miracles and Gratitude

In a deeply moving revelation that brings tears to the eyes of anyone who’s ever feared losing a child, Hallmark star Nikki DeLoach recently opened up about the terrifying ordeal that nearly took her youngest son’s life.

“If you knew how close it really was,” she shared in an emotional exclusive interview, “you’d understand why this still hurts.” Her voice trembled as she spoke, leaving the raw intensity of that moment hanging in the air – a reminder of the fragile thread that holds our greatest joys.

It was a day that began like any other, filled with the ordinary rhythms of family life alongside her husband Ryan Goodell and their older son Hudson. But everything shifted in an instant when doctors delivered the devastating news during her pregnancy: little Bennett had been born with four severe congenital heart defects. Without immediate intervention, he wouldn’t survive.

“I still don’t know how to put that moment into words,” DeLoach confessed, the weight of that experience continuing to linger in her heart like an eternal echo.

Just five days after Bennett’s birth in 2017, the tiny newborn underwent a groundbreaking open-heart surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In the hands of world-renowned surgeon Dr. Vaughn Starnes – one of only a handful capable of such a feat – Bennett’s four defects were corrected in a single, record-setting procedure that most children wouldn’t survive.

Yet that was only the beginning. Over the next 18 months, Bennett endured two more open-heart surgeries, each time hanging on the precipice of life as his parents prayed through endless nights of fear and hope.

DeLoach’s words paint a vivid picture of unimaginable pain: the sterile hospital halls, the beeps of monitors, the helpless ache of watching your baby fight for every breath. But woven through the sorrow is profound gratitude for the doctors, nurses, and team at CHLA who became lifesavers in the truest sense. “Bennett probably would not be here without them,” she has said, her eyes filling with tears at the memory. Today, at eight years old, Bennett is thriving – playing soccer, mastering the piano, excelling in school – a living miracle whose laughter fills their home with joy.

Through her pain, DeLoach has transformed grief into purpose, co-chairing a massive fundraising campaign for CHLA and designing the “Benny Bracelet” with all proceeds supporting the hospital that saved her son. Her story touches the soul, evoking waves of emotion: the terror of near-loss, the overwhelming relief of survival, and the enduring ache that reminds us how precious life is.

It’s a testament to a mother’s unbreakable love, the heroism of medical miracles, and the quiet strength that carries us through the darkest days. As DeLoach honors those who gave her family a future, she moves us all to cherish our own miracles – and to hold our loved ones a little tighter.
