Everyone’s saying the same thing after watching Pope Leo’s wild interaction with crowd

The pope has got many people saying the same thing after accepting a rather sweet gift from Americans who had traveled to see him.

People on social media are reflecting on Pope Leo’s regular interactions with crowds following a sweet moment with some other Americans.

Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been welcomed the world over, but has delighted Americans especially.

Pope Leo became the first American pope after replacing Pope Francis and his selection has also resulted in many Americans offering up gifts and trinkets when he is out in public.

As well as this, in June, the Catholic leader delighted Chicagoans by donning a Chicago White Sox baseball cap, while wearing traditional clothing.

However, more recently, a family from Chicago gifted him a shirt with the words ‘Da Pope’ in reference to a famous SNL sketch on Chicago sports fans, particularly ‘Da Bears’ fans.

The family have spoken out about the wonderful moment in meeting the pope, but people on social media have joked that interactions like these are why we are unlikely to see another American pope.

Sharing the clip on Reddit, one user wrote: “They’ll never let us have another American pope after this lol.”

Another added: “I wonder if non-Americans find this unbearably cringe. As a Chicagoan I do love it though.”

But while some admitted it felt ‘wrong’ to have an American pope, there were some users who praised the scene.

One said: “Hardly a day goes by without Chicago news having a little story on this Pope. This clip of course made it the other day. He made this family so happy!

“His smile and demeanor are very friendly. And he speaks up for the Gazans and Ukraine. I’m very proud to be from the same little hometown (Dolton) as him.”

Another added: “I know this is supposed to be a trashy interaction, but I think it’s really nice and shows that they’re just really proud to have a pope from their city. We tend to have a lot of hometown pride here.”

“Having briefly lived in illinois one thing i can say for absolute certain is that he knew this shirt was gonna be given to him at some point or another, it was an inevitability,” wrote a third Reddit user.

While another person chimed in: “I agree with you, Americans are deeply unserious – and he loves it, because The Bears definitely bring out his American side. He signed a Pokémon card. He sees the fun and the seriousness in his work, and how it can bring people together.”
