Emma Watson reveals she’s ‘self-partnered’ and explains what it really means.

Emma Watson, widely recognized for her role in Harry Potter, introduced the concept of being “self-partnered” in a 2019 interview with British Vogue. She admitted she once struggled with the idea of being happily single but eventually embraced it, saying, “It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.” While Watson still dates, she isn’t committed to any one person.

Rather than using dating apps, she prefers being set up by friends. “My friends are great at setting me up… Some of my closest friends are people I originally went on dates with that didn’t work out,” she revealed. Psychologist Carla Marie Manly supports this approach, explaining that self-partnered individuals find fulfillment outside of relationships.

Watson follows a trend set by celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, who introduced the term “conscious uncoupling.” Therapist Travis McNulty notes that younger generations are redefining relationships, prioritizing independence.

Manly highlights the importance of being comfortable alone, suggesting that activities like dining solo or volunteering can build confidence and foster self-sufficiency.
