Elvis Presley’s Luxurious Private Jet from 1962 Finds New Owner

Elvis Presley gained renown not only for his incredible music and unmatched voice that mesmerized millions worldwide.

He also possessed a sharp sense of style and a discerning palate for food (who doesn’t adore blue suede shoes?).

Little known to many is the fact that the rock icon also excelled in interior design. His renowned personal jet stands as a prime example of his distinctive taste.

In 1962, Elvis acquired his very own airplane and ensured it was tailored to his liking. Upon entering, one is greeted by elegant wooden walls, plush carpeting, and opulent red velvet seats.

Elvis cherished the Lockheed Jetstar aircraft for over 35 years, yet following his demise in 1977, it was left unattended. Among his collection of private planes, the Lockheed was a standout.

He also owned a customized version of the Convair 880, famously dubbed the “Lisa Marie,” with the call sign Hound Dog 1. Another JetStar plane he owned was known as Hound Dog 2. These private aircraft epitomized his lavish lifestyle and passion for aviation.

In Roswell, New Mexico, USA, the plane depicted below languished on a roadway for an extended period before being auctioned off. A devoted fan of Elvis recently acquired the jet over the phone for $260,000 during an auction in Florida.

Accompanied by his father, Vernon Presley, Elvis first took flight aboard this aircraft as it soared above the clouds.

For over 30 years post Elvis Presley’s passing, the aircraft remained stationed in a specific location in New Mexico. Despite some fading of its red paint upon closer inspection of the exterior, the aircraft stands in relatively good condition.

Explore the interior… I must concede, embarking on a long journey aboard this aircraft appears enticing. It radiates the same charisma I envision the King of Rock exuded.

The seats cloaked in sumptuous red velvet complement the walls adorned with wooden panels. An advanced television unit is seamlessly integrated into the space. The sizable cabin provides ample seating for guests, featuring cozy chairs. A compact kitchenette is discreetly positioned at the rear.

Just imagine the microwave, likely nonoperational after all these years. Picture Elvis standing up, strolling to the kitchen, crafting one of his signature peanut butter, mayonnaise, crispy bacon, and banana sandwiches before warming it in the microwave. Embrace the nostalgia!

Explore the lavatory! With its lavish velvet and extravagant sink. Compare this to the cramped quarters of commercial flights… Certainly not too shabby, wouldn’t you say? I’m grateful for the chance to savor a taste of Elvis’ favored mode of travel.

The aircraft fetched $260,000 at auction. It went under the hammer at the Florida Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car Sale on January 8th.

Bids were submitted over the phone by potential buyers, although none were accepted.
