In one standout photo, the family posed with their host in a richly decorated setting, all dressed in elegant evening wear. But it was the presence of Zachary and Elijah Furnish-John that sparked the most attention. The boys, usually kept out of the spotlight, appeared confident and composed.
Reactions from fans were swift and emotional. On Facebook, one user wrote, “It’s amazing how those boys look so much like their fathers! They make a beautiful family‼️🥰” Another commented, “OMG! I blinked and those kids went from toddlers to young men in a flash! How time flies! What a beautiful family! ❤️”

One netizen praised Elton and David for keeping their sons out of the public eye, noting they appreciated that the boys’ faces aren’t widely shown in the media or used for attention. They felt this showed the couple was doing a great job as parents.
Instagrammers shared similar sentiments. “The elder one looks like Elton & the younger one looks like David look nice lads,” someone else observed. Another added, “The older one has Elton’s smile!”
Another remarked on how much the boys have grown, and offered warm wishes for a happy New Year to all four family members. A different person commented on how good-looking the boys are and expressed gratitude to Elton for his music.
One expressed admiration for how Elton and David have raised their sons, calling them handsome, healthy, happy, and well-adjusted. “The boys are so handsome! I never doubted that they wouldn’t be!❤️” someone else gushed.
That outpouring of affection reflects the deep connection fans feel toward the family, a bond that began the moment Elton and David became parents.
Zachary was born on December 25, 2010, via surrogate in California. The couple shared in a joint statement that they were “overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment.”

Just over two years later, their family grew again. Elijah arrived on January 11, 2013, also via surrogate in Los Angeles. In a statement to Hello! magazine, they said, “The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way.”

Now 15 and 13, Zachary and Elijah have grown up largely out of the spotlight, with their parents choosing to protect their privacy. That’s part of what made their appearance at the New Year’s Eve party so meaningful, a rare glimpse into the lives they’ve built quietly over the years.
A deeper look into their family life came through the 2024 documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late,” co-directed by David and R.J. Cutler. The film explores parenthood, aging, and Elton’s reflections on the future.
In a September interview with People, David spoke about one of the documentary’s most emotional moments, when Elton discusses fears about missing key moments in their children’s lives. “I don’t think it’s a conversation you want to have with your children. I don’t want to plant that seed in their mind,” he said.

David also described Elton’s strength, noting that despite health challenges and a grueling career, he has always remained resilient. He pointed out that Elton rarely cancels performances and recovers quickly from challenges, adding that he’s so enduring, he might even outlive him.
In the film, Elton shares how his children often worry about his health and how much he values the time they have together.
“I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know,” Elton said. “So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around. Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
David also shared with the publication how grateful he is for the slower pace of life after years of Elton’s demanding schedule. He said he wanted Elton “to be around forever.”
After three decades together, he said, they’ve finally entered the chapter they always hoped for, one built around family, presence, and balance. He recalled how Elton once performed nearly 100 shows a year, and how everything shifted once they became parents.
In a November 2024 interview on “Radio Andy” for SiriusXM 102, Elton John spoke openly about how fatherhood shifted his priorities. He explained that raising his sons with David had become the most meaningful part of his life and that this was the reason he chose to step away from touring.

Elton added, “But for me personally, I’ve had an amazing life, great career, incredible achievements, music, blah blah blah. But I would say that our sons, and David, are the most important things to me, and that’s why I came off the road, to be able to spend the latter part of my life being there for them.”
