Trump Trips on Air Force One Steps — Internet Sees Irony
A Misstep on the Way to Camp David
On Sunday, June 8, former President Donald Trump suffered a public blunder. As he boarded Air Force One en route to Camp David, he tripped while climbing the staircase. The moment, caught on camera, quickly went viral.
Trump, 78, was heading to the presidential retreat in Maryland to meet with military leaders. The discussions centered around the potential use of the Insurrection Act in response to ongoing immigration-related protests in Los Angeles.
Brushing It Off
Despite the stumble, Trump didn’t acknowledge the slip. He quickly recovered and continued walking, avoiding any reaction. Before takeoff, he had spoken briefly with reporters, denying that the protests constituted an insurrection.
“No, no, but you have violent people,” he said, according to The Independent. “We’re not going to let them get away with it.” He also warned that there would be “troops everywhere.”
Though the Insurrection Act wasn’t invoked, Trump did deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles. California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the move, telling Sky News it would “only escalate tensions.”
Déjà Vu for Viewers
Social media users were quick to point out the irony. Many recalled Trump mocking President Joe Biden for similar stumbles.
Biden, now 82, famously tripped over a sandbag during the 2023 Air Force graduation ceremony. Trump had then commented, “I hope he wasn’t hurt… You don’t want that,” before ridiculing Biden’s coordination at a rally.
He also mocked Biden’s 2023 stair stumble on Air Force One, saying, “Joe Biden can’t even walk up a flight of stairs.”
A Familiar Fall
Trump’s stumble may not carry political consequences, but it did spark a flood of reactions and comparisons. As many viewers noted, what goes around often comes around—especially on the stairs of Air Force One.
