Donald Trump’s meeting request was turned down by a pro golfer — and the reason may surprise fans

Trump Gets Snubbed by Pro Golfer

Former U.S. President Donald Trump once faced an unexpected rejection from a professional golfer — and the reason left fans stunned.

Golf-Filled Presidency

Since starting his second term in office, Trump, now 78, has spent plenty of time on the golf course. According to Trump Golf Track, he has played golf on at least 24 days since his January 20 inauguration.

Playing With Golf Legends

Over the years, Trump has teed off with some of golf’s biggest names. He’s shared the course with Tiger Woods and LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau recently came close to winning The Masters at Augusta, finishing just two shots behind Rory McIlroy.

The Rejection No One Expected

However, not every pro golfer jumped at the chance to meet the president. When Trump invited LIV player Richard Bland to dinner at his Miami golf resort, Bland turned him down. But his reason wasn’t political or personal — just practical.

Bland’s Honest Answer

“I’d had a pretty busy week,” Bland told Mail Sport. “I’d had a big dinner the night before and didn’t want two late nights in a row. I’m sure I wasn’t missed.”

While other LIV golfers accepted Trump’s invitation, Bland prioritized rest.

A Career Comeback

Despite the snub, Bland remains focused on his game. The 52-year-old English golfer, who once reached 48th in the world rankings in April 2022, is now enjoying a late-career revival. He hasn’t finished below 24th in LIV’s seasonal standings this year.

Secret to His Strong Form

When asked about the secret behind his improved play, Bland credited former soccer star Matt Le Tissier. The two are longtime friends.

“I’ve known him 30-odd years,” Bland said. “We’re both Saints fans. We play six to ten rounds a year — always with £10 or £20 on the line. He’s a proper player, with a handicap around one. He’s taken a bit of money off me over the years.”

Le Tissier even caddied for Bland at the Scottish Open in 2002.

Eyes on the PGA Championship

Now, Bland looks ahead to the U.S. PGA Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina. He tees off Thursday, hoping his relaxed approach — and those friendly games with Le Tissier — will help him go far.
