Dodgers’ Alex Vesia and Wife Face Devastating Loss of Their Daughter

Dodgers Reliever Alex Vesia Steps Away After Heartbreaking Loss

When the Dodgers announced Alex Vesia was stepping away for a personal family matter, fans were left worried and confused. Now, the reason for his sudden absence is heartbreakingly clear.

On Friday, November 7, 2025, Vesia and his wife, Kayla, shared devastating news: their newborn daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, had passed away. The couple posted a heartfelt statement on Instagram.

“Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”

Even in their grief, the Vesias expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they received.

Grief, Gratitude, and Support

In the same post, the couple thanked the Dodgers organization and fans across baseball.

“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us, and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”

They continued,

“Thank you, Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments, and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”

The couple also praised the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling.

“Lastly, we’d like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly incredible.”

The post ended simply, “With Love, The Vesias.”

Dodgers’ Silence Spoke Volumes

Just three days before Sterling’s passing, on October 23, the Dodgers posted a brief statement on X:

“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter. The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”

The next day, ahead of Game 1 of the World Series, manager Dave Roberts confirmed Alex would likely miss the game, respecting the family’s privacy.

Family Comes First

Team president Andrew Friedman explained the decision to leave Alex off the postseason roster entirely.

“This is so much bigger than baseball,” he said. “And for us, it was doing whatever small part we could to just 100% be supportive.”

Alex and Kayla had shared their pregnancy news in April 2025. Now, their tragic loss marks the end of an already challenging season for the Dodgers’ bullpen, and Alex’s absence has added emotional weight. Through it all, the organization made one thing clear: family comes first.

Fans Rally Around the Vesias

As news of Sterling’s passing spread, fans flooded social media with condolences, prayers, and tributes. The baseball world continues to mourn with the Vesias, sending love during their unimaginable loss.
