In an August 26, 2025 ABC special, “Emma and Bruce Willis – The Unexpected Journey,” Emma described the move as “one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make so far.” The facility provides 24/7 professional support while maintaining a warm, family-like environment. Emma explained that the new arrangement prioritizes Bruce’s medical care while allowing their daughters to live in a more stable home environment.
“I knew first and foremost Bruce would want that for our daughters. He would want them in a home tailored to their needs, not his,” Emma said.
She referred to the care facility as Bruce’s “second home,” emphasizing the connection they still maintain.
“It’s a house filled with love and warmth and care and laughter,” she added.

After the special aired, Emma addressed online backlash in an August 29 Instagram video. She acknowledged that sharing intimate family details would invite both support and judgment.
“Everyone will have an opinion, but most don’t have the experience to back it up,” she said, citing a chapter from her book The Unexpected Journey.
She reinforced that even those familiar with dementia cannot fully understand the family’s dynamics.
“If they don’t have this experience, they don’t get a say, and they definitely don’t get a vote,” Emma said.
