Actor Graham Greene has died at the age of 73 years old. He was best known for his breakout role as Kicking Bird in the 1990 film “Dances with Wolves” staring Kevin Costner.

According to a statement shared with Deadline, he died following a long illness on September 1st in a hospital in Toronto, Canada.

His agent, Michael Greene (who is not related to Graham Greene), shared, “He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed.” He added, “You are finally free. Susan Smith is meeting you at the gates of heaven.”

Smith was the actor’s longtime agent who died in 2013.

Greene was born on the Six Nations Reserve in 1952. He started his acting career in theater where he performed on stage in the 1970s.

Greene’s first on-screen acting role was in 1979 in an episode of the Canadian TV series The Great Detective. Then in 1983, he acted in his first movie, Running Brave.

His big break was in 1990 when he was cast in Dances with Wolves. Greene received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor his role as Kicking Bird.

Following Dances with Wolves, Greene’s career really took off and he acted in many more movies and TV series. Some of the movies he acted in include Maverick, The Green Mile, Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and Molly’s Game. Some of the TV series he acted in include Northern Exposure, Wolf Lake, Defiance, Goliath and American Gods.

Greene never retired from acting. He acted in an upcoming movie called Ice Fall, which is a thriller staring Joel Kinnaman.

Greene is survived by his wife, Hilary Blackmore, who he was married to for 35 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Lilly Lazare-Greene, and his grandson, Tarlo.
