Cracker Barrel Walks Back Logo Change After Fan Backlash—Brings Back the “Old Timer”

Cracker Barrel has reversed course on its controversial logo redesign after weeks of backlash from loyal customers. The restaurant chain confirmed on August 26 that it is bringing back its classic “Old Timer” logo featuring Uncle Herschel sitting beside a barrel.

The move comes as part of Cracker Barrel’s broader “All the More” campaign, launched with country singer Jordan Davis, which aimed to modernize the brand and appeal to younger generations. Earlier this year, renovations across several locations stripped away the chain’s familiar country-store décor, replacing it with minimalist white walls and a sleeker look. Fans were quick to express frustration, saying the changes erased the rustic, homey charm that defined the restaurant for decades.
The Logo Controversy
The tipping point came when Cracker Barrel introduced a new logo earlier this month. Gone was the signature image of Uncle Herschel—long seen as a symbol of the brand’s old-fashioned hospitality. In its place was a plain orange background with only the words “Cracker Barrel.”
The redesign sparked immediate backlash across social media. Many longtime customers argued the chain was abandoning its identity and alienating its most loyal base.
Cracker Barrel Responds
In a Facebook post on August 26, the company acknowledged the criticism and announced the return of the familiar design:
“We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away, and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain.”
The statement emphasized that despite efforts to refresh its look, the heart of Cracker Barrel remains unchanged:
“At Cracker Barrel, it’s always been – and always will be – about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family. As a proud American institution, our 70,000 hardworking employees look forward to welcoming you to our table soon.”
Balancing Tradition and Change
While the logo is returning to its original form, Cracker Barrel has not indicated that it will reverse other changes made under the rebranding effort. In a statement on August 25, the company reiterated that it must adapt to stay relevant to new generations of diners.
For now, though, fans of the chain are celebrating the return of a familiar face. Uncle Herschel—once thought to be retired—remains firmly at the center of Cracker Barrel’s brand identity.
