Collin Gosselin, one of Jon and Kate Gosselin’s eight kids from the TV show ‘Jon and Kate Plus Eight’, talked to Entertainment Tonight about his strained relationship with his mom Kate Gosselin. He opened up about Kate sending him to a mental health institution for two years. During his time there, she only visited him one time.
“She came to visit me once,” Collin told Entertainment Tonight. “It was about for thirty minutes, and the entire time all she did was lecture me and told me that I destroyed our family.”
According to Collin, he was ready to graduate from the Marines when his past stay at the institution was discovered by the military chain of command.
He explained to Entertainment Tonight that the Marine Corp didn’t look into the background of his time spent at the institution; but, immediately dismissed him.
Collin is not happy about Kate’s decision to institutionalize him. Kate has responded to this criticism on her Instagram account.
“I have never wanted to have to do this, but I feel I have been backed into a corner and left with no choice. Although it saddens me to do so, I need to speak out now,” Kate wrote on her Instagram account. “My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs.”
Kate continued, “All measures that were taken in our home were at the explicit recommendation of his pediatric psychiatrist and/or his team of specialists and were put into place to safeguard every member of our family.”
His father Jon was granted custody of two of the sextuplets, Hannah and Collin. Jon has been an advocate for Collin and claimed his time in the institution was unnecessary and detrimental to his son’s well-being.
Jon was proud of Collin for going straight into the Marines after high school. Collin is appealing the Marine discharge decision. Currently, Collin is attending Penn State and majoring in Finance.
