She played several complicated and unforgettable characters due to her talent, beauty, and variety.

The Italian actor from Tunisia was found at 18 while training to teach. The glossy-haired, French-speaking young woman was voted Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia at an Italian film festival.

I helped my mother and Italian government officials establish a Tunisian Italian film festival. I shouldn’t have been glancing at the stage girls. She stated she was named Tunisia’s Most Beautiful Girl after being shoved onstage.

Young woman received many producer offers and won a trip to Venice film festival, a foretelling adventure.

Cardinale said, “It’s like a man,” when he rejected the offers. If you agree instantly, he leaves. If you decline, he wants you long-term.”

She turned down most offers because she was pregnant.

Cristaldi insisted her pregnancy remain a secret.

Cardinale played minor roles in Italian films under Cristaldi and was known as “Italy’s sweetheart.”

Three Strangers in Rome, a romantic comedy, was her breakthrough role in 1958. Cardinale became sad and suicidal seven months into her pregnancy, which Cristaldi kept a secret. She begged her management to end the arrangement.

Cristaldi sent her to London, hiding from the paparazzi, claiming she was learning English for a role.

She alleged an anonymous man raped her and fathered her 1975 child Patrick. Her son Patrick was hidden until he was 19.

‘Violent truth’
Cardinale told Italian journalist Enzo Biagi, “A man I didn’t know, much older than me, forced me to go up to car and raped me,” in 2017. My darling Patrick was created from the violence, which was horrific but beautiful. Despite the complications for a single mother, I decided not to undergo an abortion.”

“When that man learned of my pregnancy, he came back and demanded an abortion. I never considered abandoning my pet!”

Cardinale claimed, “With him I was practically an employee, a subordinate who was paid a month for the four films I made a year: I didn’t even call him by name, but by surname.” Cristaldi controlled her life. My parents were outraged and I felt trapped.He was with me because I wasn’t in love. Cristaldi was a talented producer, but his personal life was better ignored.

Her career continued after leaving Cristaldi in 1975 despite their terrible relationship.

The natural beauty, who debuted in Goha with Omar Sharif, became one of Italy’s best actors. After starring in Rocco and His Brothers (1960), she starred in the Oscar-winning films 8½ with Marcello Mastroianni and The Leopard with Burt Lancaster in 1963. Cardinale, hailed as the Italian Brigitte Bardot, appeared in 1971’s The Legend of Frenchie King with her friend and adversary. Audiences enjoyed it. What distinguished her from Bardot? She never appeared naked in a film because “I always thought it was more erotic to leave some room to imagination, hinting at things rather than showing everything.”
