The Tragic Event at UVU

Charlie Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The shooting occurred midday, organized by UVU’s TPUSA student chapter.

Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot from a nearby building. Kirk was the only person injured, and campus police quickly cleared the courtyard.

A UVU spokesperson stated: “Shots were fired from a building about 200 yards from the speaker. The individual was taken away immediately by security. The campus is closed for the day, and a suspect is in custody.”

Immediate Response

TPUSA confirmed Kirk’s condition: “Charlie Kirk has been shot. He is in the hospital, and we are praying for him.”

Later, the organization announced his death to employees and supporters: “Early this afternoon, Charlie went to his eternal reward with Jesus Christ in Heaven.”

The FBI questioned and released the initially detained suspect, emphasizing the investigation remains active. Experts warned that the attacker likely had firearms experience and acted with precision.

Eyewitness Accounts

Jeremy King, 45, who stood 15 feet from Kirk, recalled initially thinking the gunshot might be part of the presentation. Panic set in when Kirk collapsed. King described: “Everyone dropped to the ground. You don’t know if this is a single shot or if it’s going to turn into a mass shooting.”

Kirk’s bodyguards acted swiftly, moving him to a nearby SUV as King recorded the response.

Tributes and Official Reactions

Tributes poured in from leaders across the political spectrum. President Donald Trump called the shooting a national tragedy, describing Kirk as a martyr.

Vice President JD Vance echoed Trump’s message, calling Kirk a legendary figure who inspired young Americans. Trump also offered condolences to Erika Kirk and their family.

Earlier, Trump ordered all U.S. flags at half-staff through September 14, covering federal buildings, military installations, and embassies worldwide.
