A Career That Spanned Genres
Yulin’s fiery performance as the judge in Ghostbusters II — the one who triggered a courtroom full of ghosts — remains unforgettable. But his range stretched far beyond that single scene.
He delivered standout roles in Scarface, Clear and Present Danger, and Training Day. In 1996, he earned an Emmy nomination for his guest role on Frasier, proving his versatility in both comedy and drama.
Theater Was His Foundation
A Los Angeles native, Yulin found his roots in theater. He played Hamlet three times off-Broadway and starred in acclaimed productions like Hedda Gabler, The Price, and The Visit.
He didn’t just perform — he mentored. Yulin taught acting for eight years at Juilliard, nurturing the next generation of performers.

A Respected Colleague
Yulin recently prepared for a new television series, American Classic, alongside Laura Linney and Kevin Kline. Director Michael Hoffman paid tribute, calling him:
“Very simply one of the greatest artists I have ever encountered… The grace, the humility, the generosity — what he was as an actor, he was as a man.”
Actor Stacy Keach, who worked with Yulin on the 1971 western DOC, had been collaborating with him on new projects up until his passing.
A Legacy on the Small Screen
TV fans will recognize Yulin’s face from dozens of roles. He appeared in Ozark, Veep, Billions, Divorce, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and And Just Like That…. He brought depth and presence to every performance.
Still, many fans will never forget that iconic Ghostbusters II moment — when his courtroom tirade unleashed a paranormal storm. It sealed his place in pop culture history.
