New York — Caroline Kennedy stood with her grandson outside St. Ignatius of Loyola Church on January 5, 2026. She cradled her granddaughter in her arms as family and friends prepared to enter for a private funeral service. The solemn gathering marked the farewell to her daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, who died at age 35 after a battle with leukemia.

Tatiana, a respected environmental journalist and author, was the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg. She also was the granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

A Life Lost Too Soon

Tatiana died on December 30, 2025, after a fierce struggle with acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive blood cancer. Six weeks earlier, she had publicly shared her terminal diagnosis in an essay for The New Yorker, describing how the disease was discovered shortly after the birth of her daughter.

In her essay, Tatiana wrote about her love for her family and the fear of leaving her young children behind. She also detailed months of treatment, including chemotherapy, stem‑cell transplants, and clinical trials.

At the Funeral

The funeral was held at the same Upper East Side church where Jackie Kennedy’s memorial took place in 1994 — a poignant historical echo.

Inside, close family members gathered. Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg were joined by their older children, Jack and Rose Schlossberg. Tatiana’s husband, Dr. George Moran, and their two children — Edwin, 3, and Josephine, 1 — also attended.

Former President Joe Biden, longtime family friends, and extended relatives were present to pay their respects.

Caroline Kennedy exited the church holding her granddaughter while her son walked with his father. Photographs from the event showed the family united in grief and support.

A Legacy Remembered

Tatiana Schlossberg was known for her sharp mind, compassionate writing, and passion for environmental issues. She worked as a climate reporter and contributed to major publications, including The New York Times.

Her family shared a statement on social media after her death: “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.”

In her final months, Tatiana focused on her children and preserving her family’s memories. Her passing has deeply affected her parents, siblings, husband, and young children.
