Bret Baier’s journey: blind date beginnings, a frightening accident, and a life filled with gratitude

From Blind Date to Family Life

Bret Baier, Fox News’ chief political anchor, has a family story full of love, resilience, and gratitude. From meeting his wife on a blind date to surviving a serious car crash with his kids, his journey has been anything but ordinary.

Southern Charm Meets Chicago Roots

Baier may grill political power players on national TV, but at home, he’s a devoted husband and father. He met his wife, Amy, in September 2001 through mutual friends.

“I’m not sure why they thought it would work,” Amy told Country Magazine. “But they had a good feeling… They did warn me to buckle up — that a life with Bret Baier would be an interesting ride.”

It clicked immediately. “Bret was such a gentleman,” she added. “He’s from Atlanta and has that Southern charm. We’ve been together ever since.”

Two Decades Strong

The couple married in October 2004 in Amy’s hometown of Chicago. Amy joked, “I’ve always wanted to live in Chicago, but Bret says he would only move there if they move the nation’s capital.”

Bret also had to “run the gauntlet” to win over Amy’s father and three brothers. In October 2023, the couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Amy shared a heartfelt post: “Happy 20th Anniversary @bretbaier! I love you! #myeverything.”

Two Sons, One Family Motto

Bret and Amy share two sons: Paul (born 2007) and Daniel (born 2010). Their firstborn, Paul, was born with congenital heart disease and underwent complex surgery as a baby.

“That experience changed us,” Amy told People in 2024. “We have a saying in the Baier family — ‘gratitude is the attitude.’ We learned that from Paul.” Focusing on gratitude has helped the family navigate even the toughest moments.

The Montana Cr*sh That Changed Everything

In January 2019, the Baier family faced another life-altering event. While driving in Montana, their SUV hit ice and flipped after a pickup struck their vehicle.

“We slid into the intersection of a busy road… a big pickup slammed into our driver’s side,” Bret later explained on air. “The airbags deployed. The windows shattered. We careened into a ditch and flipped sideways.”

Miraculously, all survived with minor injuries. Bret suffered a concussion, stitches, and a sprained ankle. He reassured viewers afterward: “I had to be here today to show you I’m OK. Count your blessings.”

A Family Built on Faith and Resilience

Despite his high-profile career covering politics from Washington, Bret’s true anchor is his home life. Shaped by love, near-tragedy, and gratitude, the Baier family faces every challenge together.

From medical crises to milestone anniversaries, they approach life with faith, resilience, and heart — proving that family always comes first.
