Michael Wolff Claims Trumps Are “Separated”
Rumors swirl around President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump after author and longtime critic Michael Wolff claimed the couple is separated—and not just emotionally.
Wolff, known for his controversial bestseller Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, told The Daily Beast podcast that the Trumps no longer live as a traditional married couple.
“They do not share a life the way we typically define a marriage,” Wolff said. “They are separated. They lead entirely separate lives.”
A Relationship “Practically Nonexistent”
The author doubled down, claiming the couple’s dynamic isn’t just distant—it’s nearly nonexistent.
“They’re not together. Not in the way the public assumes,” Wolff added.
Speculation intensified after The New York Times reported that Melania has spent very little time at the White House since Trump returned to office in January. Sources estimate she stayed at the residence for no more than two weeks total—and even that was generous.
Security Concerns Keep Melania Away
The report noted that Melania has been concerned about her family’s safety, particularly after two alleged threats to Trump’s life last year. The incidents reportedly “shook” her, leading her to favor private settings over public appearances in D.C.

White House Pushback
The White House pushed back forcefully. Communications director Steven Cheung called Wolff “an imbecile of the highest order” in a statement to The Telegraph. He accused Wolff of being so consumed by Trump Derangement Syndrome that he’s lost touch with reality.
Melania’s Future Plans
Despite criticism, some media outlets report that Melania may not take up full-time residence at the White House during a second Trump term. Sources told CNN she plans to split her time between Palm Beach and New York.
When asked by Fox News about her role if Trump returns, Melania responded calmly:
“This time is different. I have more experience and I know what to expect.” She added she would primarily stay in Washington but travel to New York and Palm Beach as needed.
Persistent Rumors
Speculation about the Trumps’ relationship is longstanding—from tabloid reports to online conspiracy theories, including bizarre claims that Melania sometimes uses a body double.
Though the couple denies marital trouble, public appearances have done little to quiet the rumors. With critics like Wolff continuing to push the narrative, scrutiny appears likely to continue.
For now, the White House maintains its message: The Trumps are united, despite what the rumor mill suggests.
