New Delhi, July 9, 2025 – Residents of a suburban neighborhood were startled today after discovering unusual spider-like clusters in the attic of an old home. The clusters, resembling dark, fuzzy balls, were found nestled between cracked wooden beams.

Experts have identified them as a rare species of social spiders, possibly a type of Anelosimus, known for living in communal webs.Local authorities were called when a resident, Elara Sharma, 12, attempted to touch one of the clusters, causing it to disintegrate into dozens of tiny spiders that scattered before regrouping. Entomologists from the nearby university were dispatched to investigate.

“These spiders likely break apart as a defense mechanism,” said Dr. Anil Patel, a spider expert. “Touching them triggers a dispersal response, but they reform quickly.”The discovery has raised concerns about potential infestations, though experts assure the public there is no immediate danger.
