Babysitter from hell: ‘My best friend killed my son while babysitting’

Makallie Elizabeth Durham, a babysitter from hell, was sentenced to life in prison without eligibility for parole or any other form of release from incarceration for the killing of two-year-old Kristian Harris.

Durham, 25, of Iuka, pleaded guilty to capital murder and several counts of child abuse.

At the time Durham’s boyfriend call an ambulance, Durham had been babysitting Kristian and his 11-month-old sister, who was also all bruised, for several days.

As per the Alcorn County deputy sheriff’s office, little Kristian was unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital where he died two days later.

The tragic incident took place in September of 2022, and Durham’s sentence came two years later.

The court hearing determined that the babysitter from hell hit the toddler in the head on three separate occasions, September 9, 12, and 13.

She was also hitting the baby in the same manner.

On the day emergency services were called to a property in the city of Corinth, where the kids were staying, it was determined that Kristian was severely bitten by the babysitter.

Following her son’s passing, Kristian’s mother spoke of Durham’s audacity to send her a message begging her to help her to avoid serving jail time at the time of the arrest.

Allegedly, the mom, Jay Hurd, wrote back saying Durham should be happy that the police got to her first.

“And I said, ‘Your a** should go [to jail]! Because why my babies got bruises all over them? You better hope they take you before I get there’.”

When Hurd was told her children were taken to the hospital, she knew something was terribly wrong.

“They were trying to keep me calm, calm enough to get to my kid, and then they would tell me the full details,” she told the Mail.

“So, when I got to my son [at the hospital], it was like 12:02 when I walked into that room. And I just started praying because I knew my baby was dead.”

It is still not clear how Durham was related to the family of the boy she killed. However, around the time of Kristian’s passing, his mom took to Facebook to write, “How could you be my friend, sis, bff?

“When you let my kids get hurt? I would’ve never thought you would let them get hurt, but you let them get HURT beyond measure.”

Our thoughts and prayers go to the grieving family. With Durham’s sentencing to life in prison, the justice is finally served.
