Ashley Biden has made headlines after sharing a pointed Instagram story just hours before filing for divorce from her husband of 13 years, Dr. Howard Krein.

On the morning of August 10, 2025, Ashley posted an image to her Instagram story showing a man and a woman walking hand in hand. She captioned it, “My husband and his girlfriend holding hands ❤️.”

According to multiple media outlets, including Sky News, Fox News, and the New York Post, the photo — taken from behind — showed a dark-haired man wearing a casual short-sleeved shirt and a blonde woman in a strapless black dress. Their identities were not immediately confirmed.

Ashley also added the Notorious B.I.G. song “Another,” featuring Lil’ Kim, to the post. In the clip she selected, Kim raps, “What do you do when your man is untrue? Do you cut the sucker off and find someone new?”

The Instagram story was deleted soon after it was uploaded. Later that same day, Ashley filed for divorce in a Philadelphia court from the 58-year-old plastic surgeon, marking the end of their marriage.

The post quickly spread across social media, prompting a wave of public reaction. On Instagram, comments ranged from brief expressions of sympathy to outright criticism.

One person wrote, “Sad.” Another said, “Messy!” A different commenter remarked, “Savage.” One response read, “He too threw away a diamond 💎 & picked up a rock 🪨 😮.” Others expressed stronger feelings, with one stating, “That’s awful.”

On X, the reaction was similarly divided. One person asked, “Revengeful is she [sic]???” Another expressed, “This is so very sad.” A different netizen quipped, “I feel bad for Ashley… a haunted soul. I hope she figures it all out.”

The divorce filing was confirmed by multiple media outlets, including People, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and the New York Post.

On Monday (August 11), Ashley, the daughter of former President Joe Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden, submitted the paperwork in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. A representative for Ashley confirmed the filing.

That same day, Ashley posted an Instagram story of herself walking through a park and giving a thumbs up, with Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” playing in the background.

She also shared a quotation on Instagram that read, “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before,” accompanied by Lauryn Hill’s “Freedom Time.” Both stories have since been deleted.

Dr. Howard is an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. Divorce complaints in Philadelphia are not public records.

Ashley and Howard tied the knot in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware, after Krein proposed during a sunset on a cliff in Big Sur, California, according to People magazine.

The pair met in 2010 through Ashley’s older brother, Beau Biden, who died from brain cancer in 2015. They have made their home in Philadelphia’s Society Hill neighborhood, public records show.

Ashley holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania and has worked with formerly incarcerated women in Philadelphia through the Women’s Wellness Spa(ce), a project in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia. The couple do not have children.

Ashley’s pointed social media posts, followed by her same-day divorce filing, have placed the end of her 13-year marriage in the public eye.

While neither she nor Dr. Howard has spoken publicly about the circumstances, the sequence of events and the public reactions have ensured the separation remains under widespread scrutiny.
