An Extraordinary Story Of How Harrison Ford Rescued A Boy Scout Who, By Accident, Signaled His Helicopter While Stranded In Yellowstone

Harrison Ford once shown that he could be a hero both on screen and in real life.

A 13-year-old youngster was once saved by the actor after he somehow used a unique ability to alert Ford’s chopper while he was wandering in Yellowstone National Park.

A 13-year-old boy scout named Cody Clawson got lost while hiking in Yellowstone in 2001.

After going AWOL for a total of eighteen hours, Cody chose to hide in a nearby cave to avoid the rain and sleet while only wearing shorts, sandals, and a T-shirt.

The teenager, however, slept for a few hours until waking up to the sound of a chopper overhead, which just so happened to be Harrison Ford.

Cody took his belt buckle and used a technique he had learned in the boy scouts to reflect the sunlight, signaling to Ford that he needed help.

“I started looking for an open place that I could signal them,” the boy told ABC News.

“I used my belt buckle to reflect the sunlight.”

Cody was flown to a search and rescue headquarters after Ford quickly landed his helicopter.

Speaking about what transpired next, Cody claimed that as soon as the actor said “hello,” he instantly recognized him by his voice.

“The way he said [hello] reminded me so much of his role of Han Solo in Star Wars. Then I was like, ‘Oh my God, Han Solo has just rescued me. How cool is that?”

“When we landed, Harrison Ford came over to me and said, ‘Boy, you sure must have earned a merit badge for this one.’ But I told him I’d already earned this badge last summer, and he laughed.”

Cody clarified that his encounter with Ford altered his viewpoint on celebs.

“What he did gave me a different perspective on stars. They sometimes get portrayed as snobby people, but there really is good, generous people out there,” he said.

“And to me Harrison Ford is one of those good people who we’re lucky to have as an influence on our lives.”

Cody’s pals asked him if he had been able to get his autograph after he told them about his Yellowstone vacation.

He added, “The kids asked if I got an autograph but I told them, ‘No, but I got a hug and a handshake, and that’s better’.”
