Actor Shaves Beard To Raise Awareness About Single-Use Plastic Problem

When Jason Momoa, the Aquaman star, shaved off his beard for the first time in six years, many of his fans were shocked.

Over the years, the 45-year-old has gained notoriety for his trademark beard, but he just announced on Instagram that it was gone.

In a significant statement on single-use plastic, Momoa posted a video of himself shaving his famous beard on Wednesday, July 30, for the first time in more than five years.

“Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again,” the actor wrote in the caption.

The Dune star then explained, “I launched @mananalu to help eliminate single-use plastic. Now, we’re taking it even further, partnering with our team at @Getboomerangwater to bring in a closed-loop system that sanitizes and bottles water onsite.”

“That means even less waste, reduced shipping footprint, and our aluminum bottles get reused over and over.”

“This is the future, and we’re starting in Hawaii. Let’s get rid of single-use plastic. For our children and for our planet. All my aloha, J.”

“Only for you, Denis,” Momoa remarked in the video, referring to Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune.

“Goddamnit! I hate it,” the actor then said about his new look.

Momoa’s grooming regime has seemingly left many fans speechless online, with one person penning on Twitter, “Babe wake up Jason Mamoa has a bald face,” while a second added, “Jason Mamoa looks completely different!!”

In the third Dune film, which is scheduled for release in December 2026, Momoa’s kid Nakoa-Wolf is portraying Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya’s on-screen child.

Momoa, who is also coming back for the third installment of Dune as Duncan Idaho, has denied rumours that he assisted his son in landing the part, stating that his teenage son did it on his own initiative.

Speaking to Extra recently, Momoa joked“He’s in for a rude awakening is what he’s in for. He’s into the workforce for the first time.”

And addressing those nepo baby claims, the Hollywood actor added, “It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with [Dune 3 director] Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding s*** down with Denis Villeneuve.”

We’ll see how much screen time Momoa and his son spend together as the film is scheduled for release in 2026.
